Our summer reading programs for children have begun and will be attended by an enthusiastic crowd of young readers for the DESTINATION JUNGLE program sponsored by TD BANK, THE TORONTO PUBLIC LIBRARY, AND THE LIBRARY AND ARCHIVES OF CANADA.

New Library Logo

Wetaskiwin Public Library Unveils New Logo

The City of Wetaskiwin Library Board is pleased to announce that the Wetaskiwin Public Library has a new logo.

Designed by local resident Peter Tyler, the new logo visualizes what defines the Wetaskiwin Public Library (books, audio books, DVDs, CDs, and more).

The selection of Mr. Tyler’s design brings to a close a project that began in 2008, when the Library launched a contest looking for a new logo. Many submissions were received and the winning entry was formally announced at the September 20, 2009 Library Board Meeting.

Our library Chairperson, Marilyn Keller is a former teacher. She’s an avid reader, and has several favourites:

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseina

Life of Pi by Yann Martel

Uncle Tom’s Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe

The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck

Rush Home Road by Lori Lansens

Barbara Macdonald is also a teacher. She is an avid reader with eclectic tastes in reading material that includes both fiction and non-fiction. She particularly enjoys historical fiction, and includes Edward Rutherfurd and Phillippa Gregory among her favourites.

Bill Elliot is a former teacher and principal, and is currently a City of Wetaskiwin councillor. He is involved with many organizations in Wetaskiwin but still finds time to read, especially if the book is a gripping thriller! Novels by James Patterson, Frederick Forsyth, Tami Hoag, John Grisham, and Johnathan Kellerman kept him busy this summer.

How much are overdue fines?

Overdue fines are assessed based on the type of item on loan.

Books, magazines & audiobooks
$.25 per day per item

Cds (music)
$.25 per day per item

Videos & dvds
$1.00 per day per item

Maximum fine per item: $10.00

Customers may renew items in person, over the telephone, and on-line to avoid late penalties. Please note that items with another patron waiting WILL NOT be renewed.

Minimizing Overdue Charges

Return your items on or before the due date

Use the after hours book drop chute outside the library for the return of items when the library is closed.

Renew your items before they are due. Items may be renewed twice for a further 3 weeks, either in person, by phone or online.

All items may be renewed unless they are overdue or have been reserved by another borrower.

Going on holidays? Let a staff member know before you borrow and an extended holiday loan can be arranged.

I dropped a library book in the bathtub…what now?

First of all, you are not alone! Damage to library books occurs more often than you might think, but it is rarely intentional. Accidents happen. Of course, we hope that customers will treat borrowed material with extra care and caution, but that cup of coffee, the new puppy, or the large mud puddle at the end of the road don’t always cooperate! Rest assured, you won’t be banned from the library for the rest of your life; we kindly ask, however, for re-imbursement of the cost to purchase another copy of the same (or a similar) item. We expect normal wear and tear to show after material has been well used by the community. Unfortunately, food, drink and other substances can cause mold, mildew and bugs to breed within the pages of a book. It’s unhealty and unsanitary for everyone, and can even spread to other material in the library if left unchecked.
